CLX Community Un-Meetup | June 2019
Once a year, CLX hosts an "Un-Meetup."
The Un-Meetup is an unscheduled convening at which members are free to connect, meet, make, create, and/or just hang out. Each year, CLX works with members to select an inspiring and unconventional space. This year, the CLX Community will journey to the Make Good Lab at the UIC College of Education. Check out more details below.
The UIC College of Education Make Good Lab officially opens in fall 2019, but we’ll be christening the space at the June CLX Un-Meetup! The Make Good Lab is a compact makerspace and digital media production studio for educators and youth to engage in creative learning and production, develop cutting-edge pedagogies, and solve community-based problems. Although makerspaces are located in public libraries, K-12 schools, universities, and community centers, only a few are located within colleges of education.
Located on the first floor of the UIC College of Education, the Make Good Lab will serve as a community-engaged centerpiece of the College’s commitment to “make good on the promise of public education.” The Make Good Lab has dedicated space for digital media production (e.g., video and music production) as well as digital fabrication (e.g., 3D printing, CNC cutting, sewing/embroidering). It will be used by UIC faculty and staff, undergraduate and graduate students, in-service teachers, pre-service teachers, and K-12 students, in conjunction with community partners. We’re excited to share the space with you on June 20. We’ll have everything we can up and running so you can try out some making good. And we’ve also reserved additional rooms in the College of Education for breakout meetings and/or working group time.
The UIC College of Education is located at 1040 W Harrison Street in the Education, Theater, Music, & Social Work (ETMSW) Building. It is located directly off the Blue line UIC-Halsted stop. Exit to the west towards Morgan Street and the building is just across the street.
Paid parking is available in the Harrison Street Parking Structure (1100 W Harrison). It costs $9 for 2-3 hours or $11 for 4-5 hours. The Make Good Lab is in room 1241 on the first floor.
