April 21 Virtual Meetup

  • 04.21.2022 @ 9:00am – 11:00am
  • Zoom

At the April meetup, we will discuss how to create culturally responsive programs to support BIPIOC youth.

WHY?

Connecting and building lasting relationships with young people, especially BIPOC youth, requires an understanding of their needs and experiences. Most organizations and institutions in Chicago with youth programs have been made aware, through the Black Lives Matter movement most poignantly, of the importance of racial and social justice education. As schools and curricula become battlegrounds for politics and culture wars, the Out-of-school-time space can serve as a refuge for many BIPOC youth seeking to affirm their identities and interact with counter narratives.

At this month’s meetup, members from the racial justice education organization, InterAction Initiative, will share their work in creating the Black-Asian History pamphlet developed by the Young Black-Asian Solidarity Working Group (YBA) composed of BIPOC high school students.Kelly Yu, Program Manager for InterAction Initiative and CLX Interim Network Manager, Elisheba Fowlkes, will facilitate the discussion and reflection.
