Information Coordinator @ Chicago Public Library

Duties: Under the supervision of the Division Chief of Teen Services, the Information Coordinator develops and implements communication and public information programs and outreach initiatives for the Teen Services Department and ensures that youth, and the adults that support them, are connected to the wealth of resources at Chicago Public Library that support lifelong learning.

Develop, plan, and execute an outreach strategy to provide information as well as library services and programs to communities identified through Mayoral initiatives and Chicago Public Library’s Equity Office as high need such as youth involved in the juvenile justice system or the foster care system. Coordinate outreach efforts to promote Library programs and services to targeted audiences and neighborhoods and participate in evaluation of outreach initiatives. Conduct assessment of community needs, interests, and trends to identify new or modified programming activities. Provide support to Library staff in outreach efforts focused on teens in their communities. Develop and document teen-centered approaches and best practices for community engagement and design professional development training for other staff. Collaborate with the Teen Services LIII Content and Literature Specialist and the Chicago Public Library Marketing team to produce print and digital materials for outreach efforts. Network with community organizations, academic institutions, and private companies to build collaborative relationships in promoting Library initiatives and programs. Serve as a representative of the department and the library to share resources and project updates and insights to internal and external stakeholders. This position requires the ability to manage multiple work streams and to engage in a high level of teamwork and communication. Other duties as assigned.

LOCATION: Harold Washington Library Center 400 S. State Street

DAYS OFF: Two days per week

SHIFT: Will be required to work some Evenings and Weekends

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Public Administration, Humanities, or a directly related field, plus four years of experience in the development and implementation of public information or outreach programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • ​​Experience in outreach and community engagement with youth.
  • Experience in developing professional development.
  • ​Experience working in a public library.
  • Project management experience.
  • Programming background at a youth serving organization.
