Chasing23 Youth Empowerment Group provides out of school, out of work, or justice-involved young men of color in Chicago with the personal, academic, and professional support that enables social-emotional competence, educational attainment, and sustained employment. As a young adult, our founder Darius Ballinger found himself out of school, out of work, and facing a criminal sentence. In hopes of changing his own trajectory for the better and providing guidance to others susceptible to the same pitfalls, Darius founded Chasing23 in 2016. In the years since, Chasing23 has served 35 black and brown youth ages 16-24 in the Bronzeville, Grand Boulevard, South Shore, Washington Park, and Woodlawn neighborhoods who face personal, academic, and professional skill insufficiency. By providing these youth with a comprehensive blend of mentoring, tutoring, and workforce development programming, Chasing23 aims to build young men of color who will work toward making our communities more equitable.
